Nanny Gate

Well, as many of you know, we've had an interesting experience with the Nanny here. She's young (20 years old) and very quiet. Apparently she was very nervous about the prospects of being the only nanny here for a family of Americans (usually there are 3 nannies/housecleaners working in some capacity). But we were all very kind to her when we arrived, asked about her family, etc. We are not very demanding in terms of cooking, cleaning, laundry, since we're not used to any help! But she never cracked a smile when we talked to her and she always seemed quite annoyed with us.

Then yesterday I approached her about a schedule for our meals, and she told me she just couldn't stay any longer! She said we were very nice and it was nothing against us, but she was just too uncomfortable with English all around her and her new duties. Ok. She said she'll come back when the Rodriguezes are back in town. We're trying not to be offended, but I suppose we are a little. On the other hand, it was so stressful having her here, we're actually glad to be on our own for a while.

She packed her bags this morning, gave us a kiss goodbye, and hopped in a taxi!

Next Tuesday we will meet our new nanny. She won't live with us (which is fine, actually), but she'll come in during the day to clean, cook, watch the kids, do laundry, etc.
